Can I sell a junk car on Chicago's East Side with registration only?
Possibly. Choose "I have registration only" on Junk Car Company's form, and we'll check on the call whether the card is enough under Illinois rules for a scrap sale. If it is, the East Side pickup is free and you're paid at pickup. If not, a duplicate title is the usual fix.
Side drives and bungalow blocks
Most of the East Side was built north of 108th Street by the 1930s, and the blocks to the south filled in during the 1940s and 1950s as industry grew along the Calumet River. Expect brick bungalows and frame houses, many with side drives, which makes most pickups easy. A car in a side drive or behind the house just needs a note on the call about how to reach it.
Main roads and lakefront landmarks
Ewing Avenue is the main commercial corridor, especially south of the Skyway, and 106th Street is the other shopping street. The Chicago Skyway cut the neighborhood in two in the 1950s, and the Burnham Greenway Trail passes under it on its way south toward Burnham and Calumet City. On the lake, there’s Calumet Park and its beach; inland, Eggers Grove Forest Preserve.
The East Side is bounded by the Calumet River on the north and west, State Line Road on the east and 126th Street on the south. Hammond, Indiana, starts across State Line Road, and we pick up there as well: our service area covers Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana as far as Gary.
A paperwork note for the East Side
Cars that crossed the state line bring an Illinois-or-Indiana question. This site covers Illinois paperwork only. If the car is titled and registered in Illinois and you only have the card, see registration only, and our Illinois no-title guide explains the state rules. If it’s an Indiana title, tell us on the call.
Why this page exists
People on the East Side search for a junk car buyer the same way everyone does, without typing the neighborhood name. Junk Car Company wrote this page so the answer is local anyway. It’s one of six Far South Side areas, between South Chicago and Hegewisch.
